THE NEW CATCH-ALL?
As often happens, a new invention or profession is uncovered and it excites those of us looking for a new or different direction. Until recent years, the term ”coaching” was used in reference to training someone in a specific area or “coaching” an athletic team.
An exciting and much needed profession has arrived which is often confused with other specialties. In order to understand what the modern-day coach is, an explanation of confusing terms is helpful.
A Mentor is someone who speaks from experience, offers specific direction, sets no goals and does not charge a fee. A sponsor fits this explanation.
A Counselor serves people who are in need of healing.
Coaching does not fix broken people. Coaching takes a healthy person to a higher level. Coaching is a partnership of equals. It is a one on one interactive relationship that helps people identify and accomplish their personal and professional goals faster than they can on their own.
The most creative people in an organization will often rise to the top, because of thier positive inspirations and motivation. If you can solve a problem or develop a new product or approach that will sell, you will be recognized.
