OBJECTIVES:
- Describe the magnitude of medical errors
- Define the types of medical errors
- Discuss factors that increase the risk of medical errors and liability
- Understand the laws pertaining to the welfare of your patients and their rights
- Identify populations of special vulnerability
- Discuss responsibilities for reporting medical errors
- Describe public education measures related to patient/client safety
- Identify how and when to refer patients for further evaluation and/or medication
- Recognize and identify the symptoms and sources of burn-out and countertransference and how to handle them properly
- Identify and apply the mandatory reporting laws
- Understand the importance of proper record-keeping particularly regarding how HIPAA applies to you
