21-Hour Power and Control Training
Working With Men who Batter

 

This Training is targeted specifically for those individuals who:

  • Work with Clients who Batter
  • Work with families impacted by Family Violence (victims)
  • Are interested in becoming a state approved facilitator and/or certified assessor.
  • Facilitators/certified assessors seeking to refresh their perspective and receive annual continuing education contact training hours.

 

What to expect from this training:

  • Gain knowledge of the latest statues, Laws and policies effecting both victims and perpetrators of Domestic Violence.
  • Gain awareness of the Cultural/Historical perspective of Domestic Violence and the dynamics of Power and Control.
  • Gain Understanding and accountability measures in the role of the facilitator with regard to Victim Contact and Safety Planning. The importance of referring victims to a certified Domestic Violence Center for intervention. Understanding collaboration.
  • Lethality Assessment – stalking, substance abuse, and mental health.
  • Gather additional material on the effects Domestic Violence on children.
  • Recognize The need to understand diversity and how to become more cultural competent & modified interventions to reach special populations – elderly, disabled, language barriers, and people of color, gay/lesbian, and juveniles.
  • Understand how to utilize the Power and Control Wheels, and effective use curriculum , enhance you facilitator skills within the group setting.

 

Information on the Trainer

Darlene Silvernail PhD LMHC CAP CDVCIV , has over 23 years of experience working within the domestic violence field.. She has extensive experience working with Men who Batter, providing treatment services both in an outpatient setting and incostody programs. She has also extensive work with victims of Domestic Violence. She has been an active member of the Victim’s Rights collation since 1998.. Has been approved as a state trainer, facilitator, assessor and supervisor for the state approved listing. Some of Dr Silvernail’s community involvement has been as follows:

  • Chair for the Palm Beach County Domestic Violence Council from 1999-2001.
  • Chair of the Batterer Intervention sub-committee from 1995-1997.
  • Certified State train the facilitator for Domestic Violence programs and staff
  • Certified State trainer for FCASV Sexual Violence train the trainer
  • Certified trainer for Human Trafficking task force Palm Beach County
  • Member of the Victim Rights Collation 1996- present
  • Member of the Victim’s Rights Advisory Council 1999-2003 Dissertation – “Effectiveness of Batterer Intervention Programs”

930-noon – Using the Wheels and Control logs in group / avoiding collusion / accountability (part 1)
noon-1pm lunch-
1-2pm Con’t with How to use the wheels and curriculum effectively (part 2)
2- –5pm Special populations (diversity / cultural competency)

 

Day three

830- 1030 Effects on the Children
1030- 1230 Victim Saftey / safety planning
123-130 lunch
130- 330 Lethality assessing , stalking , mental health concerns and substance abuse issues

Cost - $250.00- for the 21 hrs of Power and Control facilitator training.

 

Note: Those individuals who are not seeking certification to become a provider for domestic violence facilitation, assessor or program certification may enroll in part or half days for continual education credits.

  • 21 hours $250.00
  • Any half days 4hrs at $50.00
  • One full day $100.00

CEU’s are available for Licensed professionals if requested.(There is an additional cost for CEU’s)
